Today has been AMAZING! We are off to a great start! Check out our first day of school photos! Ask your child about the "First Day Floats" we made! MMMM....delicious! :) First Day Float It’s the start of 2nd grade today- You’re off on a new adventure, HOORAY! We’re going to enjoy a special treat... Yes, it’s something you can eat! I’ll pour some bubbly juice for you, Then top it with a cool creamy treat, it’s true. The ice cream will float on the very top, I want it to remind you this year not to stop- When you meet challenges along the way, Remember this drink from our very first day. If you stay positive, work hard, and continue to try- You’ll rise to the top, like the ice cream-no lie! We’ll learn to work hard and have lots of fun too! I’m so glad I get to spend this year with YOU! Written by: Mrs. Todd (2017)

We had a BLAST at our Challenger Center field trip last Friday! We learned about the ISS, watched a film inside the Star Lab, practiced controlling airplane simulators, and experimented with magnets! Ask your child about his/her favorite part. Check out our pictures from our first field trip of the year! It sure was AWESOME! Check out these precious 1st day of 2nd grade smiles! We had a fabulous 1st day! I'm looking forward to a super 2nd day of 2nd grade tomorrow! Wishing each of you a wonderful summer! Read, read, read and make some time to rest too! We had a wonderful year! I will miss you! Love, Mrs. Todd It's finally ready! Here's our submission for the Richland Two Film Festival. We worked really hard on this. The students came up with the idea (thanks Sadie) and wrote the script. The narrators (Blake and Adrian) worked really hard on getting the script just right! The actors were flawless (Tinnin, Madison, Terrell, Hayden, and Zaria...along with the entire class)! I am so proud of every student's hard work! We hope you enjoy it! One recent literature genre we studied was poetry. We specifically focused on Haiku poems. After reading several Haiku poems and discussing how poetry is visual, we wrote our own Haikus. Each student selected his/her favorite season as the topic for the Haiku. The students also 'published' their Haiku poems by typing them into a Google Document. We hope you enjoy our poems! Parents, Thank you for sharing your child with me each day. I will be giving your child a special holiday gift Friday, but today I have a gift for YOU! 2015 has been such a wonderful year of learning! I hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays! Love, Mrs. Todd Yesterday we participated in THE HOUR OF CODE! We learned how to 'code' computer programs and practiced our skills. Coding uses logic and develops critical thinking skills. My students are THRILLED with their coding abilities! I was so impressed with their skills! Below you'll find a link to a Symbaloo site with many different coding websites that your child can use to practice at home! This is a great brain stretch activity. Parents, give it a try--how many levels can you pass? Enjoy!
Yesterday we visited The South Carolina State House. We have been learning about our state government and visited The State House to learn more about how laws are made. After our tour, we headed across the street to the BB&T building. My father, Mike Briggs, arranged for us to view Columbia from The Capital City Club. The Capital City Club is on the top floor of the BB&T building-which is the TALLEST building in SC! We could actually see urban, suburban, and rural communities from the windows in the Capital City Club's ballroom. We had an amazing time and learned so much about our government, South Carolina history, and even observed different types of communities from 'up high!' Be sure to ask your child what he/she learned from our trip! Check out these photos of our trip!
Check out our music video! Our class planned, wrote, and produced this video. Mrs. Todd helped us edit it! We worked hard are thrilled with how it turned out! Please leave a comment and let us know what you think!
